Support Groups

Memorial hosts community groups that give support and advice to those dealing with life-changing medical and psychological conditions. Family members of those affected are also encouraged to attend these free meetings.

Health Matters Ad

Solution Group—Weight loss program

"Retraining Your Brain for Health and Happiness," a program for weight loss, meets Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. or Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Open for new participants every 14 weeks. The class costs $100 for two individual Great Start coaching sessions and $299 for the 12-week sessions, including materials.

Al-Anon

Meets Fridays at 6 p.m. at new location: Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1112 W. Fremont in Selah, and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial’s Classrooms A & B. For more information, call 577-9401.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Meets the third Friday of every month at 7 p.m. in Memorial’s Classrooms A & B. Call 698-3296 for more information.

Bereavement Support Group

Meets at Memorial Home Health, 1019 S. 40th Ave., from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. Call 574-3600 for more information.

Better Breathers Clinic

Support group open to patients with lung impairments, such as asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and their families. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 2506 W. Nob Hill Blvd.  Coffee and cookies provided. For information, call Holly Tull at 575-8110.

Wellness House and North Star Lodge Present Cancer Care Support Groups

Patient support group meets Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at North Star Lodge in the Complementary Medicine room. Caregivers support group meets in the same location, Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Both groups are facilitated by Eunice Koeppe. For more information, call 574-3514.

Cardiac Patient Support

Meeting are held at Memorial’s 16th Avenue Station, 1470 N. 16th Ave., Yakima. Please call 574-3330 for specific dates and times.

Diabetes Dialog

Sharing and support meetings are held for participants to share common concerns, goals and interests related to living with diabetes. The group is facilitated by a certified diabetes educator. Call 249-5243 for information.

Gastric Bypass Support Group

Meets on the first Thursday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Memorial’s 16th Avenue Station, 1470 N. 16th Ave. The support group is open to anyone who has had or is considering bariatric surgery and their families. For more information, call 575-8307.

Ostomy Support Group

Group meets in Memorial Hospital’s Classroom C every other month Call 575-8266 for more information.

Postpartum Depression

Support services are available through Memorial’s Maternal Health Services. For more information, call 575-8160.

Pregnancy Loss Parent Support Group

Resolve Through Sharing (RTS) bereavement services are held at Memorial Hospital’s main campus to offer parents support and mentoring for those recovering from pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death. If you are interested in a support group or speaking with another RTS parent, please contact RTS at 249-5160.

Tobacco-Cessation Support Group

This group is open to all participants of the tobacco-cessation class. For dates and times, call 575-8110.

Widow/Widower Support Group

Group meets on the second Thursday of each month for dinner meetings in Memorial’s Café at 6 p.m. For more information, call 453-3242.

Vida Sana Group

Group meets the third Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, at Behavioral Health, 918 E. Mead Ave. Child care is available. For more information, call 575-8160.

Children’s Village

The following support groups are held at Children’s Village in Yakima or at the satellite clinic in Sunnyside. On-site childcare is provided free of charge by Parent-to-Parent, with advanced registration/notification.

Valley Parents

A support and sharing group for parents raising children with special needs. Meets at Children’s Village in Yakima, 3801 Kern Road, the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 574-3208.

Hispanic Social–Yakima

Meets third Friday of each month in Yakima at Children’s Village, 3801 Kern Road, 6:30 to 8 p.m., If you’re a Spanish-speaking parent of a child with special health care needs, receive support from other parents and share information. For more information, call 574-3208.

Hispanic Social–Sunnyside

Meets in Sunnyside at Children’s Village on the first Thursday of each month, 6:30 to 8 p.m. This group provides support for Spanish-speaking parents of a children with special needs by encouraging peer support and a sharing information. Meetings held at Mid Valley Mall in Sunnyside, 2010 Yakima Valley Hwy, No. K7. For more information call 574-3208 or (800) 745-1077.

Raising Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Parent support group that meets the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Children’s Village in Yakima, 3801 Kern Road. For information and to register, call 574-3208 and ask for Parent-to-Parent.
